The Breed   The Poodle, though often equated to the beauty, with no brains, is exceptionally smart, active and excels in obedience training.  He is also the only breed that comes in three size varieties.  This size choice may be why the Poodle is one of the most popular breeds according to AKC Registration Statistics.    The Poodle has no body odor and his hypo-allergenic coat may reduce allergic reactions, but requires regular professional grooming, every 4 - 8 weeks, but in exchange you will have a dog that does not shed.   No more hair on your clothes, in the car, or in your home.  Once you have owned a non-shedding dog, you will never go back.    According to the Breed Standard, poodles can be a variety of solid colors,including white, cream, apricot, red, gray, black, and other solid colors but never parti-colored (more than one color).  American Kennel Club Events will allow only solid color poodles to be shown, as the dogs are evaulated according to the Breed Standard.   The poodle is an active breed.  Many poodles retain their youthful attitude, looks and playful manner way up into their senior years.  Their antics can be very comical and entertaining.  This breed was often used in circus acts, a compliment to their intelligence, trainability, comical nature, beauty and enjoyment for people to see.   General Appearance, Carriage and Condition.  That of a very active, intelligent and elegant-appearing dog, squarely built, well porportioned, moving soundly and carrying himself proudly.  Properly clipped in the traditional fashion and carefully groomed, the Poodle has about him an air of distinction and dignity peculiar to himself.   *Some of this Information was  taken from American Kennel Club information.  You may be interested in reading the information published on The Breed Standard for Poodles.  This is a valuable source of knowledge for those who love this breed.
