LAKELAND MASTIFFS

Near San Antonio, Texas

WE'VE PROUDLY CARED FOR HUNDREDS OF HOMELESS, SICK AND INJURED ANIMALS OVER THE YEARS, BUT ALL OF THEM CONTINUE TO HAVE ONE AMAZING & EXTRAORDINARY THING IN COMMON:

A HEART FULL OF LOVE THAT TRULY KNOWS NO BOUNDS!

HERE ARE JUST A FEW OF OUR MORE RECENT RESCUE SUCCESS STORIES:

What can I say about Harley? Well, for starters I will NEVER forget him! =o) He was the greatest puppy and best four-legged friend this woman has ever had. Originally bought from a breeder in Sequin to become an important part of our quality breeding program, it was discovered that he had all the precursor signs of hip dysplasia. Given his super attitude, gentle nature, and overly kind heart, it came as no surprise to me when a local, loving San Antonio family knocked on my door and instantly fell in love with this giant teddy bear, wanting to keep him for their own!

They, too, fell instantly in love with Harley...everybody does the moment they meet him! He has one of the most precious and genuinely pure/good hearts of any dog I've had the pleasure of raising. He's been the hardest one for me to give over to his new forever family, but I know without a doubt that his new Mom & Dad and two doting little girls will provide him with the greatest loving & permanent home he could ever have! You will always be my one-and-only gentle giant, "Mister!"

My "Little Miss" Sunshine Ziggy - what a special girl to behold! Rescued from a puppymill breeder when she was just 5 weeks old, she stayed with me and grew up and played with Harley, one of my other rescues, until they were each wonderously adopted just one day apart from each other a month ago. My heart filled with joy to see them run, jump, and chase each other as joyously as they did each day.

One of the smartest lovely ladies I've ever had the pleasure of rescuing, my Little Miss was a very special little girl, near and dear to my heart always. She was adopted by the loving O'Brien family right here in San Antonio, Texas, where she has a beautiful two year old girl to call her very own! =o)

This is the fabulous and saintly Wolfie Girl! She was an abandoned stray who I found starved and alone along a back country road, overrun with ticks and fleas and internal parasites. She also had a severe case of separation anxiety and was terribly untrusting of people and head shy, presumably from being beaten by someone in her past. When I found her, the pads of her feet were sliced up and swollen with infection, the corneas of both eyes were scratched and permanently damamged, and she was tremendously anemic due to the massive amounts of intestinal worms and thousands of of ticks and fleas covering her body and sucking her blood dry.

She was exceedingly scared, shy, and unhappily withdrawn from all she'd been through. It took her over six months to finally realize she was in safe hands, that I would never hurt her, she would never again go hungry, and that she was loved...so very loved! Once she came around and felt secure and safe in my home, she absolutely blossomed to become one of my favorite rescues, with such a caring and gentle heart and saintly eyes that no longer hid her joy and love of me, too. =o) She was later gratefully adopted to a loving family withg three teenage kids who had a several-acre ranch and warm, caring home for her to spend the rest of her special days in. She helps the Dad with all of his daily ranch chores, while tending to and protecting the kind children at night, watching over them while they sleep. Wolfie Girl was one in a million and will forever be one of my greatest survivors.

Here's the energetic, beautiful, creatively clowny, Gypsy Bubbles! She was a 1/2 lb. 5 wk. old Toy Fox Terrier I bought from a breeder who had to hurriedly move out of state. Bubbles had four brothers, three of which died shortly before I bought and saved Bubbles from the same fate. She had a severe double respiratory infection and untreated intestinal worms which caused her to become very anemic. Once she recovered from her respiratory infections and she was treated for worms, she started gaining much needed weight and became the very outgoing, happy, healthy puppy you see here!

Bubbles was eagerly adopted by a San Antonio college student and her family, who all now love and adore Bubbles! She also has a new "step sister," another fox terrier to keep her company, too. I know Bubbles will want for nothing and will always be cherished, spoiled rotten, and adored the way every pup should be.

This is Baby Rosey, a rescued young min-pin/pitbull/terrier mix puppy found living under an abandoned car beside her dead mother, who had been severely hit and killed by a car. Rosey was extremely emaciated, had double ear infections, and was overrun with fleas, ticks and internal worms and parasites. She was obviously used to fighting and scavaging for every scrap of food she could find. But in just a few short weeks' time, with lots of patience, many vet visits, and tender loving care, I got her healthy again and heavily socialized her to get used to trusting people again. A few months later, after she realized she was safe and wasn't going to starve ever again, she became quite an outgoing and friendly puppy with both people and other animals, and soon afterward found her new forever home with a great family from Austin, TX.

Rosey rediscovered what it was like to just be a puppy again, to live her life with joy, playfulness and in safety, and she blossomed into a wonderful family dog and canine companion. She's a perfect example of why I do what I do...it's in my heart, and I thank God for giving me such compassion and the ability to make a real difference in so many innocent, deserving lives...just like my "Baby Rose" here!

This is the very lucky, Cookie girl! Cookie was found wandering the streets with "Cowboy" (pictured farther down) at a local hospital during one of my many doctor's visits. She very sick with diarrhea, vomiting, was severely emaciated and completely lethargic as you can see in her "before" pictures above. Once I took Cookie to the vets several times to treat her for a deadly, infectious disease called "Gardia" and got her treated for two terribly infected eyes, rotten teeth and swollen gums, and finally put some weight back on her, cut out her mats, treated her for massive amounts of fleas and countless ticks that were sucking the life out of her, and got her a real haircut, it was discovered that Cookie was, in fact, a beautiful toy/teacup poodle! Once she became trusting of me and life started returning into this little baby girl's eyes again, she blossomed into a fantastic and perky, happy little puppy girl in just under eight months.

Cookie was placed up for adoption and found a wonderful new home with the Jones Family and their two children. She now has a permenant, stable indoor home environment in which to grow more loved and secure each day she's so blessed with all their love and attentions! I'll never forget what a unique survivor spirit this little girl had, nor the endless hours and tears it finally took to get her all well again. But it definitely was worth it, knowing she's at long last found the family of her dreams, never to be lonely, strayed or starving ever again!

Bandit was a beautiful vibrant red toy poodle boy who was very depressed and sick when I first found him all alone while traveling through Jourdanton, Texas. This little guy had a severe case separation anxiety, lots of fleas & ticks sucking the life right out of him, a horrible eye infection and scratched cornea in his right eye, and was overrun with internal parasites & worms! Once he was treated at the vets for all these conditions and I nursed him back to full health, he became the playful, happy, energetic puppy that every young pup should be.

Bandit found a wonderful adoptive home with the White family from Austin, Texas, where he is absolutely safe, loved and adored by their four kids and a doting stay-at-home Mom who tends to his every need and desire.

China was one of those rescues that I dread finding...running the San Antonio streets, skinny, scared, full of fleas & ticks, home-cut ears that were badly infected, pregnant, and dragging a 9-foot heavy chain attached to a chain collar that was embedded in her neck. She was obviously being groomed as a future fighting dog and was very headshy & scared. Once she was treated by the vet (she miscarried the puppies due to her body being in such severe shock & trauma), the embedded collar was surgically cut out, the grossly open, infected wound around her neck was treated and closed, and her ears fully healed, she quickly got her rightful spirit and self-confidence back and became a well-adjusted, outgoing, full of life pitbull puppy! She quickly put on 40 lbs. of strong muscle and was taught how to play nicely with other dogs and people, and was quickly housebroken in just 2 days evidencing how smart this special girl was!

"China Belle" became as sunny as a Texas summer day and turned out to be as friendly as a kitten after her horrible ordeal and life before her rescue. She was fully rehabilitated, heavily socialized with animals and people, and then happily adopted by the Quaker family near Bryan, Texas, and given a rottweiler sister named "Boo" as her constant companion and friend. She continues to live out her now beautiful life on a very large dairy farm where she'll always be safe, happy, healthy & loved.

Cowboy...found running with "Cookie" whose story is told above...this little poodle boy was a tired, sick, depressed little puppy who was overrun with fleas, ticks and internal parasites...not to mention that he suffered from the same deadly, infectious Gardia infection as Cookie did, too! Once this precious little boy got all of his required veterinary treatments and care, he quickly became the happy, healthy, energetic, beautiful boy you see pictured in the "after" section above. His coat just shined like spun gold and the breathtaking and carefree spirit in his eyes once he got healthy again certainly filled my heart with joy!

Cowboy was adopted by the Franklin family near Corpus Christi, Texas, where he now spends his days being the spoiled, happy lap dog of an early-retired couple whose grandkids visit often. He's well taken care of and cherished in his new family indoor home, where I'm told he likes to crawl underneath the bed covers at night to keep his new owners' feet cozy and warm.

Blue was a strayed pitbull boy who had been hit and rolled by a car, suffering significant damage and injury to both his neck and his front legs. The car never stopped, so I picked him up, unconscious and lifeless from off the side of the highway and immediately took him to my vet for emergency treatment and care. He was also covered in fleas, ticks and was anemic from having severe internal parasites and a double ear mite infection. Once his wounds and injuries healed, it was obvious that he had had little socialization and didn't know how to interact with people or other animals. It took me over nine months to fully rehabilitate my "Little Boy Blue" and get him to the point where anyone - adults, children, dogs, cats, etc. could approach him and he'd respond in a friendly manner.
He grew to become a very tenacious, self-confident, happy, energetic, and secure young dog.

After months of intensive socialization, rehabilitation, one-on-one daily training and housebreaking on my part, he became an excellent indoor family pet and guardian to the Hausman family, a middle-aged couple who couldn't have kids and gave him an older Mastiff brother to be his special pal. He's now in very qualified, gentle hands and will never again be mistreated in any way, shape or form...only loved and kept safe & secure by his new family, as he so rightly deserves!
