Temperament
|
The Shih Tzu is both a gentle lapdog and an excellent companion. They have upbeat attitudes and love to play and romp. They are affectionate to their families and good with children. They are surprisingly tough and have a stubborn streak.

Grooming
|
The Shih Tzu's luxurious coat needs brushing or combing every other day. Puppies should be taught to accept grooming from a young age. If a shorter coat length is desired, the coat will need to be clipped about once every three months.

Upkeep
|
Despite their small size, the Shih Tzu needs daily exercise. Because of its small size, these needs can be met with vigorous indoor games, short playtime outside, or with short walks on a leash. Because of a Shih Tzus short nose, they should never be expected to live outdoors in hot-humid or extreme cold weather.
